Unification Trial
13th & 14th September 2008
Report written by Georgina Golle Photos courtesy of George Price
It is my pleasure as a life member of FRA to submit this report on the 2nd Unification Trial
held in Dallarnil, a small village surrounded by grazing and dairy farms near Childers some
340kms north of Brisbane. The weather over the week end was quite warm with the promise of showers,
which did not eventuate until Sunday evening, well and truly after the trials had finished. The dogs handled the conditions very well as there was sufficient water on the properties used to set tests for the comfort of the dogs competing. Wide Bay conducted their trial on Saturday with Bruce Wilson judging Novice Stake, Amand Golle
the Restricted Stake and myself judging the All Age Stake. Sunday’s trial was conducted by FRA with Dom Colisamone judging Novice, Robert Boodnikoff
the Restricted and All Age was judged by George Price. The entry was very good in all Stakes over the week end bringing together people seeking
companionship and a keen desire to work their gundogs in our retrieving discipline. The majority of triallers camped at the Dallarnil showground in their caravans or tents,
with several competitors choosing to utilize motel facilities in Biggenden. Each morning was quite busy with the activity of vetting and the public draw for the order of competing. The Trial Managers, Dom Colasimone (on Saturday) and Daryl O’Mahoney (on Sunday), thanked the various sponsors and gave specific instructions to all on the movements around the properties. I must say that the terrain on these properties was very conducive to our sport with good grass cover, ample water in the lagoons and a great variation of gullies, setting the scene for excellent runs to test the various facets of dog work. At this point I wish to mention the combined trial committee, small in number but willingly put
their shoulder to the wheel and worked towards a good trial for everyone concerned. On Saturday evening the majority of triallers met in Biggenden at the local hotel for dinner in
the company of the property owners, which was a very pleasant way to spend the evening dining and chatting about the day’s activity of trialling. The trial on Sunday finished at a reasonable hour giving those travelling south or further north
a chance to pack up and face the long journey home. It was extremely pleasing to see quite a number of minor breeds competing each day,
which included 4 x English Springer Spaniels, 1 x Curly Coated Retriever, 1 x Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, 5 x German Shorthaired Pointers, 1 x Brittany, 4 x Flat coated Retrievers and of course the specialist breed, 13 Labrador Retrievers. Presentations on Sunday included the awarding of the Unification Trophies sponsored
by the RAFT subcommittee to the aggregate winners of each stake over the two days. Congratulations to all who competed and supported this Unification Trial,
which has helped to unify two major retrieving clubs and their membership. RESULTS:
